About us

Third World is a Jamaican reggae band formed in 1973. Their sound is influenced by soul, funk, and disco. The band started when keyboard player Michael "Ibo" Cooper, along with guitarist (and cellist) Stephen "Cat" Coore, and bass player Richard Daley left Inner Circle to form their own band. The original drummer,Cornell Marshall, was known to be one of Jamaica’s best. The line-up was complete when singer called Prilly Hamilton and percussionist Irving "Carrot" Jarrett eventually joined the group. The self titled album followed shortly. The album included a cover of "Satta Massagana", originally performed by The Abyssinians, which became a local hit.

Their second album, 96° In The Shade, had several local hits and featured what would become the band’s classic line-up. "Prilly" was replaced by the distinctive vocalist William "Bunny Rugs" Clarke. William "Willie" Stewart replaced Marshall on drums and a whole new sound that would influence Reggae and Pop music over the next 30 years was borne. Notable among the eight tracks were "1865 (96° In The Shade)", "Rhythm Of Life", and the only cover on the album, "Dreamland", written by Bunny Wailer (this was originally called "Dream Island", as recorded by the American R&B group, The El Tempos).

Third World’s greatest success came in the late 1970s and early 1980s, peaking with their cover version of The O’jays’ "Now that we found love", a hit single on both sides of the Atlantic in 1979. This song brought them to the attention of Stevie Wonder, who worked with them in co-writing, along with Melody A. McCully, their next major hit song "Try Jah Love".

Amid claims of artistic differences "Carrot" split from the band in the mid 1980s. The resulting five-piece band then went to more commercial success with songs like "Sense Of Purpose", "Reggae Ambassador", "Forbidden Love", and "Shine Like A Blazing Fire." After a few more changes the band, again, has a new line-up in present times and continues to tour extensively. A new album is expected in late 2009 featuring current big-name reggae artists. All paying their respects to one of the pioneering bands of the movement.

International reggae band Third World announced the launch of their official clothing line. The line was envisioned by the son of Third Word’s bass player, Jahreece Daley, and fashion designer Edgar Munoz.

The new online-store will feature a brand new product line of tees reflecting themes from the bands numerous classic albums that span over 30 years; along with designs inspired by third world countries across the globe.

The two have collaborated to put together designs inspired by musicians, for musicians, and music-lovers alike. Third World is widely recognized as one of the legendary bands of Reggae music. Now the longest-existing unit in Jamaican music history, their songs and message have been the motivation for the fashion designs that have help to create the first Reggae high-end tee shirt line for the stars!

"Our goal is blend to modern, highly-fashionable styles and trends, with the historic themes and artworks of Third World’s albums," stated Daley. "We have teamed up with designers that grasp the band’s diverse cultural and musical legacy and are excited about this product line."
